In the late 19th Century Herbert Hall began farming the site that is now the Marden Vineyard. For many years it was a hop garden and because of its south facing sunny aspect became renowned for its capacity to ripen early.

This plot was given a new lease of life in 2007 when it was planted as a vineyard by Herbert's great-grandson Nicholas.
